At 3dB Consult, we are proud to play an active role in the transformation of Spain’s telecommunications infrastructure, contributing to the deployment and modernization of 2G, 3G, LTE and 5G networks across Galicia, Castilla y León, Asturias and Cantabria.
Over the course of several large-scale projects, our teams have successfully delivered more than 1,500 network nodes, supporting the integration of new 5G NR spectrum bands, Baseband modernization programs, and greenfield deployments in locations where mobile coverage had previously been unavailable.
Our contribution comes at a pivotal moment for the telecommunications industry, as operators accelerate the rollout of 5G Standalone (5G SA), embrace open and programmable network architectures, and expand digital connectivity into rural communities across Spain.
Building the Transmission Infrastructure Behind 5G
Successful 5G deployment goes far beyond installing new radio equipment. Every new site requires a robust transport network, carefully engineered IP architecture, and secure end-to-end integration.
As part of these projects, 3dB Consult has been responsible for:
- Integration of new 5G NR frequency bands.
- Baseband modernization and multi-technology deployments (2G, 3G, LTE and 5G).
- Design and allocation of new IP addressing schemes for 5G traffic and other network technologies.
- Reservation of physical resources on transmission routers and microwave equipment.
- Management of required licenses, SFP modules and network resources.
- Configuration of IP and VLAN services across the entire transmission path, from radio site to core network.
- Deployment of new IPsec tunnels on Security Gateway (SecGW) platforms.
- End-to-end connectivity validation, commissioning and troubleshooting during integration activities.
Our engineers also provided on-site support throughout deployment windows, assisting with cabling activities, connectivity testing, acceptance procedures and incident resolution to ensure seamless network activation.
Designing Rural Microwave Networks for Next-Generation Connectivity
A particularly significant part of our contribution has been the design of more than 60 rural microwave links, many of them specifically engineered to support 5G services in remote and geographically challenging environments.
These transmission solutions play a critical role in connecting new mobile sites to the operator’s backbone network, ensuring the capacity, latency and reliability required by modern digital services.
As Spain continues investing in programs aimed at closing the digital divide and extending high-speed mobile coverage to rural areas, robust transmission design remains a key success factor for network expansion.
